Australian Computer Society (ACS) – Diploma in IT PDF Print E-mail

The ACS Diploma of Information Technology is offered by the Australian Computer Society. The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is a registered training organization authorized to issue the ICA50105 Diploma of Information Technology (General) qualification as defined within the ICA05 Training Package.

Syllabi and Examination Structure

ACS Diploma in IT comprises eight compulsory subjects;

1. Systems Analysis
2. Programming
3. Computer Organization
4. Data Management
5. Object Oriented Systems Development
6. Computer Communications
7. Professional Practice
8. Systems Principles.

Assessment is via external examinations offered three times per year on the last two weekends in February, June and October. Examinations may be sat anywhere in the World and candidates may prepare either by attending a college teaching an appropriate course or by using their own resources

All examinations are based upon a case study, or workplace scenario. The case study for a future offering is published on this web site at least two months before examinations commence.

A candidate may sit a maximum of four examinations at any one offering. Most candidates take twelve to twenty four months to pass all eight examinations. To pass an examination a candidate must demonstrate both practical skills AND underpinning knowledge (competencies).

Membership and Other Details

Upon completion of the Diploma of Information Technology and with relevant industry experience, students may be eligible for Associate level membership of the ACS. It also entitles a candidate to credit equivalent to one academic year of a Bachelor of Information Technology at many Australian universities such as;

1. Australian Catholic University
2. Charles Sturt University
3. Deakin University
4. RMIT
5. CQUniversity
6. The University of South Australia


A candidate must pay a fee to the Australian Computer Society when:

1. Applying to sit an examination
2. Applying for recognition of prior learning
3. Requesting to defer an examination
4. Appealing an examination result and
5. Requesting a Statement of Attainment.

Membership Fee LKR :750/= & Examination fee per subject LKR 8,000/=

The refund policy of the ACS is that, except in the case of a successful appeal against an examination result, no fees will be returned to candidates.

The ACS will, however, consider deferring an examination to the next available date if a candidate is ill or injured, or bereaved on the day of a scheduled examination.
